What are Foil Finish Business Cards?

Foil Finish Business Cards from BPRINTING.SHOP® feature premium metallic foil accents combined with silk lamination on durable 16PT coated stock. The result is a smooth, professional card with eye-catching shine and a refined tactile feel.

What is the difference between foil finish and raised foil?

Foil Worx uses a flat metallic foil finish, while raised foil has a textured, elevated surface that you can feel by running your fingers over it. Raised foil is approximately 60 microns in height.

What is a foil mask file?

A foil mask file is a black (100%) and white file used in production to indicate where foil will be applied. Black areas represent foil placement, while white areas indicate no foil.

Can I print anything under the foil area?

We highly recommend using a solid color under foil areas. Artwork or small text under the foil mask may show through or shift slightly due to production tolerances. Knockout designs are not recommended.

What foil colors are available?

Gold, Silver, Copper, Red, Blue, Black, Rose Gold.

Can I use multiple foil colors in one order?

No. Only one foil color can be used per order for Foil Finish business cards.

Can Foil Finish Business Cards include Spot UV?

Yes. If combining foil and Spot UV, separate mask files are required for each effect, and they must not overlap.

Are there design limitations for foil printing?

Yes. Avoid small text, fine lines, or overly detailed elements in foil areas. For best results, foil coverage should be under 50% per side.

How do I set up a Foil Finish job?

a. We can only use one type of foil per order so for example you can not order a Foil Worx job with gold foil on the front and silver foil on the back. You must provide a separate foil mask file: black in the areas you want the foil and white in the areas you do not want the foil.

b. All black areas should be solid 100% K with no other added colors. If you order a Foil Worx job with spot UV, you'll need to provide separate mask files for the Foil (foil mask) and UV (spot UV mask), in which case you may be required to provide up to 6 files.

c. Please keep in mind that the foil and UV coating can't overlap, both should be at least 1/16" apart to avoid the foil peeling off.

d. Avoid using small/fine text or lines for foil objects. For best results, please make sure that foil coverage is less than 50% of the entire print side.

e. Be aware that there may be up to a 1/16" shift in the placement of the foil. Keep this in mind if you are trying to align foil with other printed artwork on the card.

f. For better quality, we recommend creating mask files in vector-based programs such as Illustrator or CorelDRAW.
